“For my response to
Spring (Dream of Dreams), I chose to weave a piece that can either be worn on the body as a shawl or placed on a table as a runner. In creating this piece, I was especially drawn to the painting’s palette and how it moves from dark to light, which for me represents the transition from winter to spring. I wanted to capture that through color gradients ranging from pale pink to black and also by adding arrows, a symbol of directionality inspired by the spandrel in the painting’s upper left corner. By introducing spaces with only weft and no warp threads, I was able to give the piece more texture and also flexibility so that it can be comfortably worn. This was also a way for me to reflect the movement in Everhart’s composition. There are circular motions there that remind me of the cycle of life and the idea, that eventually from every darkness, brightness will emerge.”
